Boys' Love (BL)

BL has its own formal language: The relationship is at the center, not the coming-out, and the world around it rarely fundamentally opposes it. The story tells of the approach of two men — often with a clear division of roles between the one who drives and the one who yields.

Related yet different is Gay Romance from the English-speaking scene, which is told more strongly from the characters' own experiences. BL is used more as a style and market term, MM Romance as a genre label.
