Love Triangle

The trope divides readers because it's so often done by numbers: the safe one and the dangerous one, and the winner is whoever's on the cover. Done well, it's something else. Then she isn't choosing between two men but between two versions of her own life.

Both options have to be real; neither is scenery. Someone's loyalty gets broken whichever way she turns. And the resolution says something about her, not only about them.
