Josei

The term comes from the Japanese book market, where target audiences organize the shelves. Josei stands for adult readers, as opposed to stories for very young women. In the West, the word is now sought as a style term: for romance that takes everyday life seriously.

What defines Josei is less the heat than the situation. A woman running a department. A widow continuing a business. Someone too tired in the evening for games and yet starting anyway. The conflicts are adult: loyalties, money, children, old marriages.

At its core, Everglow is a Josei application. Most of our stories take place in a life that's already running — not one that's just beginning.
