In the English-language book market, this also goes by Interracial Romance and is one of the fastest-growing categories there. It means stories where origin plays a role: two languages at the kitchen table, a family with expectations, a holiday only one of them knows.

Done badly, it's a backdrop — origin as decoration, the character as a type. Done well, it's the opposite: the difference creates concrete scenes. Who translates what for whom? Whose mother calls? Which word doesn't exist in one language?
